Halibut-Cove
is a small community located on Kenai Peninsula in south-central Alaska. The permanent population is only around 35 residents, but that number increases in the summertime with tourists. The only way to get around the cove is by boat - there are no cars. Halibut Cove lies in a protected stretch of waterway called The Narrows, which runs between the hourglass-shaped Ismailof Island and the south shore of Kachemak Bay. Many of the houses in the community sit on pilings. Originally a fishing village, Halibut Cove has quite an art industry for such a little town. There are three galleries and 17 artists in the community. It's also home to several other businesses, and one of the only floating U.S. Post Offices in the country. As a popular tourist destination, Halibut Cove is offers several lodges and cabins. The surrounding water of Kachemak Bay provides the livelihood of many residents, who fish commercially for salmon, halibut, or cod. Others maintain the three active oyster farms in the community. Other than the art and fishing, other things to do at Halibut Cove include kayaking, hiking, camping and guided tours of the glaciers. There are only 3 places on the planet to kayak on a glacier lake with a guide, and Halibut Cove is one of them.

Halibut Cove Weather & Climate
South-central Alaska has a subarctic climate classification, with strong oceanic influences. This part of Alaska gets less rain, but more snow, than the southeast Panhandle region. Summers are short and cool to mild, and winters are long and cold. There are frequent, strong southeast winds, known as the Knik wind, in this area, especially in the wintertime. Rains are frequent in late summer, but not abundant in amount. The number of frost-free summer days number 101. The latitude in this region causes summer days to be very long and winter days to be very short. It is also generally very cloudy during winter. Due to the proximity to active volcanoes, ash hazards may occur and are significant, but not frequent.
