Cooper-Landing
is a small community located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in southeast Alaska. It's about 100 miles south of Anchorage at the confluence of the Kenai Lake and Kenai River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 289 residents. Originally a gold and mineral mining town settled in the 1800s, Cooper Landing has become a popular tourist spot due to the excellent salmon fishing opportunities on the Kenai and Russian Rivers. The Cooper Landing Post Office, which is still in use today, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There's lots to do in Cooper Landing in addition to fishing; choose from hiking, horseback riding, gold panning, camping, rafting and kayaking. The nearby Kenai Fjords National Park is filled with exciting marine sealife. Glacier tours are available and its one of the best ways for viewing the wildlife of the area and bird watching. Other adventures from Cooper Landing includes drift boat trips and float plane fly-outs for fly fishermen, and glacier, photography and wildlife flight seeing tours. Other attractions in Cooper Landing includes Gwin's Lodge, a combination hotel/restaurant/store, and the Cooper Landing Historical Society Museum. The museum offers a gift shop and picnic area, as well as a complete history of the town.

South-central Alaska's Kenai Peninsula is a piece of land that juts out from the southern coast of the state into the Gulf of Alaska. The peninsula has a coastal climate that is relatively mild, by Alaska's standards. The climate is heavily influenced by the Northern Pacific Ocean. The annual precipitation is very high in relation to other parts of the state, and the lack of extreme cold or hot temperatures speak of the maritime influence. The Kenai Peninsula is one of the few areas in Alaska that allows for agriculture, with a growing season long enough for producing hay and several other crops.
