Larsen-Bay is a small settlement on the northwest coast of Kodiak Island off the southeastern coast of Alaska. The population is approximately 90. Larsen Bay is about 60 miles southwest of the city of Kodiak and 283 miles southwest of Anchorage. A federally-recognized tribe is located in the community called the Native Village of Larsen Bay; Kodiak Island Inter-Tribal Council. The economy of Larsen Bay is primarily supported by the fishing industry. There are six lodges in the Larsen Bay area that host visitors and provide a tourist guide service. World class fishing includes King Salmon, (Chinook), Silver Salmon (Coho), Red Salmon, (Sockeye), Pink Salmon, Chum Salmon, Steelhead, Dolly Varden, as well as saltwater fishing in near-shore and protected waters for Halibut, Sea Bass, Lingcod, and more. Other things to do in the area include kayaking, hiking, biking, camping, tide pooling, beachcombing and surfing. Nearby, the city of Kodiak is home to a 9-hole golf course and host to several annual special events. The famous Kodiak Crab Festival is held over Memorial Day weekend and includes carnival rides, food and game booths, kayak races, a marathon and an ultra-marathon.

The islands off the south-central coast of Alaska, have a sub polar oceanic climate, with long, cold winters and mild summers. Precipitation is heavy year-round, with more rainfall of anyplace in the U.S., except Hilo, Hawaii. The climate on the southern islands is dominated by a strong marine influence. There is little freezing weather, but severe storms are common from December through February. Precipitation is moderate, with an annual average of 35 inches. Cloudy weather and fog are almost constant. Temperatures during the summer range from 60°F-80°F. Nighttime and early mornings are cooler, from the 40's - 50's. Late August and September temperatures are slightly cooler, and slightly fewer hours of sunlight. Autumn arrives early at these latitudes.
