Copper-Center is a small community, or census-designated place, located in the Valdez-Cordova Census Area of southeast Alaska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 328 residents. Copper Center consists of two distinct settlements; a Native Alaskan village and a non-Native settlement. Athabascan Indians represent the primary Alaskan Native group in the town. Copper Center is located along the Richardson Highway on the west bank of the Copper River at the confluence of the Klutina River. It is about 100 miles from the city of Valdez, just west of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Several RV parks and river boat charter businesses are located in Copper Center, and there are also several local services and businesses for both residents and tourists. Fishing is the main industry in the town and also the main draw for visitors. There is some highway-related tourism for Copper Center, as the Richardson Highway connects Copper Center to Anchorage (via the Glenn Highway), and to Fairbanks and to the rest of the "Outside" year-round. A state-owned 2,500-foot gravel airstrip is located in Copper Center for chartered flights and general aviation.

Copper Center Weather & Climate

West-central Minnesota, in the Otter Trail River Chain of Lakes Region , the climate is hot-summer humid continental. This region of Minnesota experiences some of the warmest summer temperatures in the state. As southwest winds blow down the slope of Coteau des Prairies, the air compresses and warms. This makes the already hot air even hotter and often causes record warm temperatures in the state, despite their higher latitudes. Winter is cold with lots of snow, and occasionally freezing rain and sleet. Below freezing temperatures are common in northern Minnesota in the wintertime. Common storm systems, such as Alberta clippers or Panhandle hooks sometimes develop into blizzards. Snowstorms are common early in the spring, but by late-spring temperatures begin to moderate.
